Lenovo G560 Portable Laptop PC – Updated Summer 2010 Review

2

Lenovo G560 ReviewThe Lenovo G560 is simple in design and equipment outfitting, but it’s modern and lives up to its designation as one of Lenovo’s “Essential” models. Capable of handling all of the basic tasks you would need a laptop to do, and a bit more, the Lenovo G560 is a steal at $699.

With this update of the Lenovo G-series, the company has included Intel’s Core i3 and i5 processors, advanced energy-saving technology to enhance battery performance, and of course, Lenovo’s Enhanced Experience for Windows 7.

The Lenovo G560 Packs A Punch

The base model of the Lenovo G560 is powered by Intel’s Core i3-330M processor. It may be the smallest in the current Intel lineup, but it still packs a punch when it comes to multi-tasking and entertainment. Choose the Core i5 processor if you want to get a bit more in terms of operating speed. In truth, though, any processor paired with Lenovo’s 4GB of DDR3 RAM will ensure that programs load quickly, operate smoothly and perform wonderfully.

Room for Storage

Data storage is available in the form of several hard drive size options, from 160GB to 500GB.

With an integrated optical drive, your data storage space is essentially multiplied infinitely. Just pop a DVD into the DVD-R and burn all of your favorite media for portable storage or for archive purposes. If entertainment is your game, just pop in your favorite DVD and let it rip.

The Display – The Highlight Of The Lenovo G560

The display on the Lenovo G560 – a 15.6-inch high-definition 1366×768 panel – is definitely one of the highlights of this configuration, especially considering the inclusion of NVIDIA’s GeForce G310M graphics card, which features 512MB of memory. The result is a pristine picture, sharp lines, clear colors and smooth playback of most any type of visual media.

Laptops are not normally known for their incredible sound, and granted, the Lenovo G560 won’t blow you away with its integrated speakers, but their placement makes for an audio experience far superior to other machines in its class.

Portability Is Essential

To ensure that the Lenovo G560 remained a portable machine, Lenovo cut down a bit on keyboard real estate, but the change is barely noticeable as the keyboard on the G560 still affords users enough space to type comfortably for long stretches of time. Also nice is the TouchPad, which features multi-touch capability for advanced non-keyboard controls.

Integrated Ethernet and Wireless cards make surfing the Web and talking to friends easy with the Lenovo G560 – there is even an optional Bluetooth card for wireless peripheral use. And to ensure that your communications are truly immersive there is a big 1.3-megapixel integrated webcam atop the display.

Connect With The World

For peripheral connectivity there are three USB ports, a 5-in-1 card reader, a VGA output and an optional HDMI output. That’s not bad for a 15-inch machine.

The design of the Lenovo G560 is simple, providing, as its series name implies, the essentials. The frame beneath the case is strong and has little bend and give when stressed, and the case itself is thick and durable. With a slightly glossy finish, the G560 still has some panache in its design.
